Globar® SD
Globar® SD silicon carbide heating elements are engineered for maximum efficiency and durability in high-temperature industrial applications. Manufactured from high-purity alpha silicon carbide, Globar® SD elements are designed to perform optimally in temperatures ranging from below 600°C (1,110°F) to 1,600°C (2,910°F). These elements are used in a variety of atmospheres, including air and controlled environments, making them versatile for use across many industries such as glass, ceramics, electronics, and metal processing.

Key features
Material and structure: Globar® SD elements are made from recrystallized alpha silicon carbide grains, extruded into rods or tubes, and then bonded together at high temperatures over 2,500°C (4,530°F). This process ensures strong and uniform bonds between grains, creating elements with high mechanical strength and resistance to harsh process atmospheres.
Flexible installation: The elements can be mounted either vertically or horizontally without the need for special supports, as they remain rigid even at high temperatures. Available in round rod or tubular forms, and multi-leg configurations (U, CU, W, and M types), Globar® SD elements offer installation flexibility for a wide range of furnace designs.
Enhanced performance: Globar® SD elements accept higher electrical loadings compared to metallic elements, leading to potential savings in furnace construction costs. The elements maintain excellent performance under both continuous and intermittent operations. For example, at 1,400°C (2,550°F), the elements typically experience a resistance increase of only 5–6% per 1,000 hours of continuous use.
Wide temperature range: Globar® SD elements operate effectively at temperatures between 600°C (1,110°F) and 1,600°C (2,910°F), with performance depending on the atmosphere. These elements also maintain durability across different environmental conditions, including clean air, controlled atmospheres, and gases like hydrogen and nitrogen, although operational limits vary by gas.
Cost and maintenance efficiency: The simplicity of installation and high operational efficiency contribute to cost savings in both furnace construction and maintenance. Elements are easily replaced, even when the furnace is hot, minimizing downtime and reducing maintenance efforts.
Versatile applications: Globar® SD elements are suitable for various furnace designs and are commonly used in industries such as glass melting, ceramics production, electronics manufacturing, and metal processing. They offer flexibility in design, easy installation, and excellent longevity, making them a preferred choice for both small and large industrial furnaces.
