Information
Globar® element grades
Grade | Description |
---|---|
Globar® SD | Globar® SD silicon carbide heating elements are designed for use in high-temperature furnaces, operating up to 1,600°C (2,910°F). These elements are available in both single-rod and multi-leg designs, providing installation flexibility. Globar® SD elements are widely used in industries such as glass, ceramics, electronics, and metals due to their durability, easy installation, and cost-effectiveness. |
Globar® AS | Advanced structure silicon carbide (SiC) heating elements are designed to offer superior strength, reliability, and performance in high-temperature applications. Globar® AS elements are available in various forms and sizes, allowing easy upgrades without modifications to existing equipment. Their applications range from the aluminum and steel industries to glass, ceramics, and electronics. |
Globar® HD | Globar® HD Max silicon carbide heating elements are designed for high-tech applications and challenging environments. The thicker wall provides greater corrosion resistance, reduced risk of mechanical breakage, and an extended product lifetime of up to 50%. |
Globar® Glass Seal | Globar® Glass Seal for silicon carbide heating elements is designed for the toughest operating conditions, particularly in corrosive atmospheres and environments with high water content. The seal provides enhanced temperature uniformity and is compatible with all Globar® elements, making it ideal for industries like glass, electronics, and precious metals. |
Globar® SG and SR | Globar® SG and SR silicon carbide heating elements are advanced, high-performance solutions designed for demanding industrial applications. Made through a unique reaction-sintering process, these elements provide exceptional durability, oxidation resistance, and uniform heating across temperatures up to 1,600°C (2,910°F). Globar® SG elements feature a central hot zone with low-resistivity cold ends, while SR elements offer a single-end terminal design with a two-start helical cut, making them ideal for flexible installation in various furnace configurations. |
Characteristics
Globar® element types
Type | Description |
Rod element | Globar® elements are available in round-section rods or tubes, with diameters ranging from 10 mm to 55 mm. This is the most basic form of the elements, which can be installed either vertically or horizontally. Because the material remains rigid even at maximum operating temperatures, no special supports are required. Additionally, the elements can typically be replaced quickly, even while the furnace is hot, reducing downtime significantly. |
Type U |
Globar® SD multi-leg elements are composed of 2, 3, or 4 silicon carbide legs, made from the same material and using the same manufacturing process as standard SD elements. Each leg is divided into two distinct sections: a hot zone and a cold end. The legs within any given element are matched in resistance value to ensure an even distribution of load. These legs are connected using specially designed silicon carbide bridges, which bond the components into a monolithic structure of alpha silicon carbide. Unlike traditional joining methods such as cements or welds that might limit the temperature capabilities of the element, these bridges maintain the integrity of the final product. The bridges are not part of the hot zone and can be used as end supports if necessary. The Type U element, which has two legs, is a single-phase unit. Multiple Type U elements can be connected to form a balanced three-phase load if needed. The Type CU element is similar to the Type U but features a shortened bridge, making it ideal for applications where space is limited. |
Globar® B | Globar® B silicon carbide heating elements are designed for easy installation and improved temperature control in industrial furnaces. They are ideal for lift-off roof arrangements, narrow channels, launders, feeders, and wide roofs or walls. |
Globar® Float Glass | Globar® Float Glass silicon carbide heating elements are designed for use in float baths, primarily in the production of soda-lime flat glass for architectural, automotive, and solar-glass applications. These elements have a lifespan of up to 18 years and are available in special glazed quality to resist attacks from volatiles in the tin bath. Horizontal heaters can be replaced while the tin bath is operational, ensuring continuous function without interrupting production. |
Globar® SG and SR | Globar® SG and SR silicon carbide heating elements are manufactured using a unique reaction-sintering process, resulting in a tough, oxidation-resistant material with controlled resistance and uniform heating. These high-performance elements have significantly lower porosity than conventional SiC elements, making them more resistant to atmospheric reactions and extending their lifespan. Suitable for temperatures ranging below 600°C (1,110°F) up to 1,600°C (2,910°F) in air or controlled atmospheres, they offer superior performance in both continuous and intermittent operations and can handle higher electrical loads than metallic elements. |
